Installing Printer Drivers with the Same Settings on Multiple Computers

This section explains how to use Setup Disk Creation Tool to install print drivers with the same settings for multiple users.

First, use Setup Disk Creation Tool to create the driver file and then upload it to the network server. Next, copy the file onto the computers of the respective users and install the print driver using the copied file. Use this method to reduce the workload of the administrator when installing the same print driver on multiple computers.

Note
If your computer's OS is Windows Server® 2008 R2, set the procedure for Windows® 7.

Before the installation

Read the "Software License Agreement" first before using Setup Disk Creation Tool.
Important restrictions are noted in the "Software License Agreement".

Important
A computer must be installed with the print driver before it can be used to create the setup disk.

Creating the setup disk

Start up Setup Disk Creation Tool from this CD-ROM and install the tool on the computer.

Important
Log in as Administrator.

There are 16 steps.

  1. Define the properties of the printer for which to create the setup disk.
  2. Click the [Admin Tools] tab on the Driver CD Kit.
  3. A submenu screen is displayed.

  4. Select [Start Setup Disk Creation Tool] and click the [Start] button.
  5. The [Creating Setup Disk] screen is displayed.

    Note
When the print driver is installed by using the Driver Installation Tool, you can start the Setup Disk Creation Tool by clicking the [Create Setup Disk] button.

  6. From [Select a printer], select the printer for creating the setup disk and click [Create disk].
  7. The [Setup Disk Settings] screen is displayed.

    Note
To define the printer properties, click [Edit printer settings].

  8. Check the [Model Name], and specify the [Port] from the pull-down menu.
  9. If the port is displayed, select the port and proceed to Step 10.

If it is not displayed, proceed to Step 6.

  10. Click [Add Port].
  11. Select either [Network] or [Others].
  12. The settings screen is displayed.

  13. Perform the next operation. This will depend on the option that was selected in Step 7.
  14. If [Network] was selected:

Click [Browse] and select the path name of the desired printer from the list of printers managed by the server.

    If [Others] was selected:

Specify a printer port of a printer that is not managed by the server. The setting for local connection, "LPT1: (printer port)", is also performed under "Others".

  15. Click [OK] on the settings screen of the port.
  16. Specify the settings for [Comments], [Printer Name], and [Set as default printer].
  17. Click [Create setup disk].
  18. The [Specify Setup Disk Directory] screen is displayed.

  19. Click [Browse].
  20. Important
If [Upgrade driver using setup disk] is set to On, the update tool will also be copied into the setup disk together with all the related files of the print driver. Set this option to Off to reduce the size of the setup disk.
    Note
If [Upgrade driver using setup disk] is set to On, the update tool will be added to the setup disk. If this disk is used to install the print driver on other computers, updating can be performed without affecting the current settings of the print driver.

  21. Specify the folder for creating the setup disk and click [OK].
  22. The [Specify Setup Disk Directory] screen is displayed.

  23. Check [Destination folder] and click [OK].
  24. important
Since the created setup disk is too large to save on a floppy disk, do not specify a floppy disk in [Destination folder]. Specify the setup disk on another removable disk (such as CD-R) or a shared hard disk on a network.

  25. After the setup disk is created, click [OK].
  26. Important
The setup disk created on Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 will contain the "Standard Settings" of the selected printer as well as the "Printing Preferences" of the user selected during the creation of the setup disk. When the setup disk is used on other computers to run the User Setup Tool, the "Standard Settings" will be the same as that saved in the setup disk. However, the "Printing Preferences" will only be the same if the user name is the same as the user that created the setup disk. To have the same settings for multiple users, first specify the settings on "Standard Settings" before creating the setup disk. The "Standard Settings" show the properties of the printer and these are displayed when the [Standard Settings] button on the [Detail Settings] tab is selected.

  27. Click [Exit].
