Automatically Installing Multiple Printers Connected via the TCP/IP Network (LPD)

This section explains the settings for printing from a computer to printers connected to the network via TCP/IP (LPD, Port9100).

Here, multiple printers can be added simultaneously. Printers connected via TCP/IP (LPD, Port9100) to the same subnet as the selected computer will automatically be searched, and all printers found can be added.

Note
If your computer's OS is Windows Server® 2008 R2, set the procedure for Windows® 7.

Before Installation

Check the following before you begin installation:

Check that the required network environment for adding the printer to the selected computer has been set up.

Check the following before you use the TCP/IP protocol:
Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8:
Check that "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" has already been installed. If not, refer to the customer documentation for Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 and install it.
Windows Server® 2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8:
Support for IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) differs according to the machine model. To find out if your machine model supports IPv6, please refer to the accompanying manual.

Adding printers automatically

Start up Driver Installation Tool from this CD-ROM and add printers to the computer.

There are seven steps.

  1. Click [Print/Fax Driver] in the [Main] tab on the Driver CD Kit.
  2. Driver Installation Tool is activated and the [Driver Installation Tool - Setup] screen is displayed.

  3. Click [Standard].
  4. The [Driver Installation Tool - Printer Selection] screen is displayed.

    Printers in the same subnet and connected via TCP/IP or LPD are searched and displayed in the [Printers found] list.

  5. In the [Printers found] list, assign your printer model with a check mark. Then click [Next].
  6. The [Software License Agreement] screen is displayed.

    Note
    • Check the following if no printers for use are found:
      • IP address of the printers
      • The SNMP (UDP) port is activated
      If the above are known and yet no printers are found, then click [Back] and then select [Custom] to proceed with the setup. For information on how to do the custom setup, refer to "Installing a Printer Connected via the TCP/IP Network (LPD)".
    • You can select more than one printer.
    • Check the displayed printer names and IP addresses, and select the target printers.

  7. Read the contents of the agreement and check [Yes] if you agree. Then click [Install].
  8. Installation begins.

    A graphic of the printer, the printer model and the printer address are displayed.

    After the setup has been completed, the [Setup Complete] screen is displayed.

    Note
    If the message "Unable to get device options" is displayed, make sure the options are specified after the installation. In Windows, click [Start] - [Settings] - [Printers] (for Windows® XP or Windows Server® 2003, click [Start] - [Printer and Fax]) and open the properties of the installed printer. Then specify the options in the [Printer] tab. For Windows Server® 2008, click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Printers]. For Windows Vista®, click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Printers]. Right-click the installed printer and select [Run as administrator] - [Properties]. In the [User Account Control] dialog box, click [Continue]. In the [Properties] dialog box, specify the options in the [Printer] tab. For information about the options, refer to the customer documentation for the printer. For Windows® 7, click [Start] - [Devices and Printers]. Right-click the installed driver and select [Printer Properties]. Specify the options on the [Options] tab in the displayed [Properties] dialog box. For Windows® 8 or Windows Server® 2012, click [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Device and Printers]. Right-click the installed driver and select [Printer properties]. Specify the options on the [Options] tab in the displayed [Properties] dialog box.

  9. Select an added printer from the [Printer Installed] list and click [Test Page].
  10. A test page is printed by the printer.

    Note
    • The printer selected in [Default Printer Setup] will become the default printer.
    • If there is only one printer selected under [Printer Installed], this printer will become the shared printer in Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista® , Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 by clicking [Setup Sharing].
    • You can change the printer name on the displayed screen after selecting [Change Name].
    • If there is only one printer selected under [Printer Installed], you can verify the properties of this printer on the displayed screen after selecting [Properties].
    • You can change the setup information by selecting [Printing Preferences] and changing the properties.
    • You can continue to install other printers by clicking [Start Again] to return to the Startup screen.

  11. Click [Finish].
  12. A confirmation message is displayed.

  13. Click [Yes].
  14. Installation is complete.

Confirming the printers have been added

Perform the following procedure to find out if the printer icons have been created.

    The printers folder is displayed. Check if the icons for the specified printers are in the folder.

Setting up for Port9100

Printing can be performed with Port9100 if the operating system for the selected printer is Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8.

Windows® XP or Windows Server® 2003

There are eight steps.

  1. In Windows, click [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].
  2. The [Printers] window is displayed.

  3. Select the printer icon of the installed print driver. Then click [Properties] from the [File] menu.
  4. The [Properties] dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click the [Port] tab.
  6. Select an added printer name from [Print to the following port(s)] and click [Configure Port].
  7. After you have selected [Raw] in [Protocol], check the value of the [Port Number] in [Raw Settings] and click [OK].
  8. Important
    The value for the Port Number must be the same as that set in the network settings on the printer. For information on network setup on the printer, refer to the customer documentation for the printer.

  9. Click [Print Test Page] on the [General] tab.
  10. A dialog box for confirming if the test page was printed correctly is displayed.

  11. Check the print result and if printing was performed correctly, click [Yes].
  12. Click [Close] on the [Properties] dialog box.

Windows Server® 2008 or Windows® Vista

This section will use Windows Vista® as an example to explain how to do the setup.

There are nine steps.

  1. In Windows, click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Printers].
  2. The [Printers] window is displayed.

  3. Right click on the printer icon of the installed print driver, and select [Run as administrator] - [Properties].
  4. The [User Account Control] window is displayed.

  5. Click [Continue].
  6. The [Properties] dialog box is displayed.

  7. Click the [Port] tab.
  8. Select the added printer name from [Print to the following port(s)] and click [Configure Port].
  9. After you have selected [Raw] in [Protocol], check the value of the [Port Number] in [Raw Settings] and click [OK].
  10. Important
    The value for the Port Number must be the same as that set in the network settings on the printer. For information on network setup on the printer, refer to the customer documentation for the printer.

  2. The [Devices and Printers] window is displayed.

  3. Right-click the icon of the installed printer, and select [Printer Properties].
  4. The [Printer Properties] dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click the [Port] tab.
  6. Select the added printer name from [Print to the following port(s)] and click [Configure Port].
  7. After you have selected [Raw] in [Protocol], check the value of the [Port Number] in [Raw Settings] and click [OK].
  8. Important
