Installing a Printer Connected via the TCP/IP Network (LPD)

This section explains the settings for printing from a computer to a printer connected to the network via TCP/IP (LPD, Port9100).

Here, printers will be specified and added one at a time. This setup allows printing to a printer connected to any subnet via TCP/IP (LPD, Port9100).

Note
If your computer's OS is Windows Server® 2008 R2, set the procedure for Windows® 7.

Before the installation

Check the following before you begin installation:

Check that the required network environment for adding the printer to the selected computer has been set up.

Check the following before you use the TCP/IP protocol:
Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8:
Check that "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" has already been installed. If not, refer to the customer documentation for Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8 and install it.
Windows Server® 2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8:
Support for IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) differs according to the machine model. To find out if your machine model supports IPv6, please refer to the accompanying manual.

Specifying and adding a printer

Start up Driver Installation Tool from this CD-ROM and add a printer to the computer.

There are 9 steps.

  1. Click [Print/Fax Driver] on the [Main] tab on the Driver CD Kit.
  2. Driver Installation Tool is activated and the [Driver Installation Tool - Setup] screen is displayed.

  3. Click [Custom].
  4. The [Driver Installation Tool - Select Connection Method] screen is displayed.

  5. Select [LPD(TCP/IP) Printer] and click [Next].
  6. The [LPD(TCP/IP) Printer] screen is displayed.

    Printers in the same subnet and connected via TCP/IP or LPD are searched and displayed in the [Printers found] list.

  7. Select your printer model from [Printers found] and click [Next].
  8. The dialog box for confirming the installation is displayed.

    Note
    • If nothing is displayed in [Printers found], do the following.

    • When using IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4)
      If the IP address or the host name is known, check [IP address] or [Host name] and input directly the IP address or the host name. The IP address' format is "X.X.X.X" (where X is a number 255 or below and a period must be included between the numbers.)
      When using IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6)
      Check the [IP address] and [Host name] and input directly either the IP address or the host name. It is necessary to indicate the global address if a printer's IP address on another subnet is specified. A printer with its search scope defined cannot be searched.
    • You can set the machine type by clicking on [Machine type selection] and configuring the [Machine type selection] screen displayed.

  9. Check the settings and select [Yes].
  10. The Software License Agreement screen is displayed.

  11. Read the contents of the agreement and check [Yes] if you agree. Then click [Install].
  12. Installation begins.

    A graphic of the printer, the printer model and the printer address are displayed.

    After the setup has been completed, the [Setup Complete] screen is displayed.

    Note
    If the message "Unable to get device options" is displayed, make sure the options are specified after the installation.
    For Windows® XP and Windows Server® 2003
    Click [Start] - [Printers and Faxes]. Open the properties of the installed printer, then specify the options on the [Options] tab.
    For Windows Server® 2008
    Click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Printers]. Right-click the installed printer and select [Run as administrator] - [Properties]. Click [Continue] on the [User Account Control] dialog box. On the [Properties] dialog box displayed, specify the options on the [Options] tab.
    For Windows Vista®
    Click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Printers]. Right-click the installed printer and select [Run as administrator] - [Properties]. Click [Continue] on the [User Account Control] dialog box. On the [Properties] dialog box displayed, specify the options on the [Options] tab. For information about the options, refer to the customer documentation for the printer.
    For Windows® 7
    Click [Start] - [Devices and Printers]. Right-click the installed driver and select [Printer Properties]. Specify the options on the [Options] tab in the displayed [Properties] dialog box.
    For Windows® 8, Windows Server® 2012
    Click [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Device and Printers]. Right-click the installed driver and select [Printer properties]. Specify the options on the [Options] tab in the displayed [Properties] dialog box.

  13. Click [Test Page].
  14. A test page is printed by the printer.

    Note
    • The printer selected in [Default Printer Setup] will become the default printer.
    • If there is only one printer selected under [Printer Installed], this printer will become the shared printer in Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 by clicking [Setup Sharing].
    • You can change the printer name on the displayed screen after selecting [Change Name].
    • If there is only one printer selected under [Printer Installed], you can verify the properties of this printer on the displayed screen after selecting [Properties].
    • You can change the setup information by selecting [Printing Preferences] and changing the properties.
    • You can continue to install another printer by clicking [Start Again] to return to the Startup screen.

  15. Click [Finish].
  16. A confirmation message is displayed.

  17. Click [Yes].
  18. Installation is complete.

Confirming the printer that has been added

Perform the following procedure to find out if the printer icon has been created.

    The printers folder is displayed. Check if the icon for the specified printer is in the folder.

Note
[LPR] is selected for [Protocol], and [lp] is entered for [Queue Name] of [LPR Settings].To confirm, click [Ports], and confirm with [Configure Port].

Setting up for Port9100

Printing can be performed with Port9100 if the operating system for the selected printer is Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8.

Windows® XP or Windows Server® 2003

There are 8 steps.

  1. In Windows, click [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].
  2. The Printers window is displayed.

  3. Select the printer icon of the installed print driver. Then click [Properties] from the [File] menu.
  4. The [Properties] dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click the [Port] tab.
  6. Select the added printer name from [Print to the following port(s)] and click [Configure Port].
  7. After you have selected [Raw] in [Protocol], check the value of the [Port Number] in [Raw Settings] and click [OK].
  8. Important
    The value for the Port Number must be the same as that set in the network settings on the printer. For information on network setup on the printer, refer to the customer documentation for the printer.

  9. Click [Print Test Page] on the [General] tab.
  10. A dialog box for confirming if the test page was printed correctly is displayed.

  11. Check the print result and if printing was performed correctly, click [Yes].
  12. Click [Close] on the [Properties] dialog box.

Windows Server® 2008 or Windows Vista®

This section will use Windows Vista® as an example to explain how to do the setup.

There are 9 steps.

  1. In Windows, click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Printers].
  2. The [Printers] window is displayed.

  3. Right click on the printer icon of the installed print driver, and select [Run as administrator] - [Properties].
  4. The [User Account Control] window is displayed.

  5. Click [Continue].
  6. The [Properties] dialog box is displayed.

  7. Click the [Port] tab.
  8. Select the added printer name from [Print to the following port(s)] and click [Configure Port].
  9. After you have selected [Raw] in [Protocol], check the value of the [Port Number] in [Raw Settings] and click [OK].
  10. Important
    The value for the Port Number must be the same as that set in the network settings on the printer. For information on network setup on the printer, refer to the customer documentation for the printer.

  11. Click [Print Test Page] on the [General] tab.
  12. A dialog box for confirming if the test page was printed correctly is displayed.

Windows Server® 2012, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8

There are eight steps.

  1. Select [Start] - [Devices and Printers].
  2. The [Devices and Printers] window is displayed.

  3. Right-click the icon of the installed printer, and select [Printer Properties].
  4. The [Printer Properties] dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click the [Port] tab.
  6. Select the added printer name from [Print to the following port(s)] and click [Configure Port].
  7. After you have selected [Raw] in [Protocol], check the value of the [Port Number] in [Raw Settings] and click [OK].
  8. Important
