Installing a Local Printer Connected via the Parallel Port

This section explains how to print to a printer connected locally via the parallel port.

Note

If your computer's OS is Windows Server^® 2008 R2, set the procedure for Windows^® 7.

Adding a local printer

Start up Driver Installation Tool from this CD-ROM and add a printer to the computer.

Before you begin, refer to the customer documentation for the selected model and prepare the "Start Page" or "System Settings List".

There are 9 steps.

Click [Print/Fax Driver] on the [Main] tab on the Driver CD Kit.

Driver Installation Tool is activated and the [Driver Installation Tool - Setup] screen is displayed.

Click [Custom].

The [Driver Installation Tool - Select Connection Method] screen is displayed.

Select [Local Printer] and click [Next].

The [Driver Installation Tool - Local Printer] screen is displayed.

Select the port to use from [Port] and select your printer model from [Model]. Then click [Next].

The [Software License Agreement] screen is displayed.

Read the contents of the agreement and check [Yes] if you agree. Then click [Install].

Installation begins.

A graphic of the printer, the printer model and the printer address are displayed.

After the setup has been completed, the [Setup Complete] screen is displayed.

Click [Properties] and specify the device options.

Options must be specified.

Note

• For information about the options, refer to the customer documentation for the printer.
• Refer to the "Start Page" or "System Settings List" to find out what options have been specified in the selected printer.

Click [Test Page].

A test page is printed by the printer.

Note

• The printer selected in [Default Printer Setup] will become the default printer.
• If there is only one printer selected under [Printer Installed], this printer will become the shared printer in Windows^® XP, Windows Server^® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista^®, Windows^® 7 or Windows^® 8 by clicking [Setup Sharing].
• You can change the printer name on the displayed screen after selecting [Change Name].
• If there is only one printer selected under [Printer Installed], you can verify the properties of this printer on the displayed screen after selecting [Properties].
• You can change the setup information by selecting [Printing Preferences] and changing the properties.
• You can continue to install another printer by clicking [Start Again] to return to the Startup screen.

Click [Finish].

A confirmation message is displayed.

Click [Yes].

Installation is complete.

Confirming the printer that has been added

Perform the following procedure to find out if the printer icon has been created.

• For Windows^® XP or Windows Server^® 2003, select [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].
• For Windows Server^® 2008, select [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Printers].
• For Windows Vista^®, select [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Printers].
• For Windows^® 7, select [Start] - [Devices and Printers].
• For Windows^® 8 or Windows Server^® 2012, select [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Device and Printers].

The printers folder is displayed. Check if the icon for the specified printer is in the folder.
