Installing a Printer Connected via the Internet

This section explains how to specify the settings for printing from Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 to a printer connected to the internet by IPP (Internet Printing Protocol).

Important
You cannot use Driver Installation Tool in this CD-ROM to specify the settings for internet printing. To do this, you need to run the Windows [Add Printer] wizard.
Note
If your computer's OS is Windows Server® 2008 R2, set the procedure for Windows® 7.

On SSL encryption communincation

Depending on the model in use, SSL can be used to encrypt the communication between a computer and a printer.

To perform SSL encryption communication, the following settings must be specified on the printer before installing the print driver on the computer.

  1. Start the IPP port and connect to the computer.
  2. Create a self-identification.
  3. Enable HTTPS.

The settings will be specified using the CentreWare Internet Services. For the details of the procedure, refer to the user guide that comes with the model.

Installing a printer connected to the internet

This section explains how to install the print driver. The installation procedures are different for the respective operating systems. Refer to the appropriate procedures for your Operating System.

Windows® XP

There are 10 steps.

  1. In Windows, select [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].

    2. The [Printers and Faxes] window is displayed.

  2. Click [Install Printer] in [Printer Task].

    3. The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.

  3. Click [Next].

    4. The [Local Printer or Network Printer] window is displayed.

  4. Select [A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer] and click [Next].

    5. The [Printer Specification] window is displayed.

  5. Select [Connect to Internet, Home or Company Network Printer] and enter the following URL in the [URL] edit box. Then click [Next].

    6. http://(IP address of the selected model)/ipp

    The screen for selecting the manufacturer and the model of the printer is displayed.

  6. Click [Have Disk].

    7. The [Install from Floppy Disk] screen is displayed.

  7. Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].

    8. For Windows® XP:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\ Win2000_XP

    For Windows® XP x64:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64

    The screen for printer selection is displayed.

  8. Select the print driver for your model and click [OK].

    9. The copying of the required files begins. The Default Printer Setup window is displayed.

    Note
    • The dialog box with the message "Digital signature not found" will be displayed. Click [Yes] to continue with the installation.
    • If you do not know the print driver for your model, click "Print Drivers" for reference.

  9. Select [Yes] to set the printer as the default printer. If not, select [No]. Then click [Next].

    10. The [Add Printer Wizard Completion] window is displayed.

  10. Click [Finish].

    11. Installation is complete.

Windows Server® 2003

There are 10 steps.

  1. In [Windows], select [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].

    2. The [Printers and Faxes] window is displayed.

  2. Double-click [Add Printer].

    3. The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.

  3. Click [Next].

    4. The [Local Printer or Internet Printer] window is displayed.

  4. Select [A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer] and click [Next].

    5. The [Printer Specification] window is displayed.

  5. Select [Connect to Internet, Home or Company Network Printer] and enter the following URL in the [URL] edit box. Then click [Next].

    6. http://(IP address of the selected model)/ipp

    The screen for selecting the manufacturer and the model of the printer is displayed.

  6. Click [Have Disk].

    7. The [Install from Floppy Disk] screen is displayed.

  8. Select the print driver for your model and click [OK].

There are 11 steps.

  1. In Windows, select [Start] - [Control Panel].

    2. The [Control Panel] window is displayed.

  2. Double-click [Printers].

    3. The [Printers] window is displayed.

  3. Click [Add a printer] in [Printers].

    4. The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.

  4. Select [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer].

  5. Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].

  6. Select [Select a shared printer by name], enter the following URL and click [Next].

    7. http://(IP address of the selected model)/ipp

    The screen for selecting the manufacturer and model of the printer is displayed.

  7. Click [Have Disk].

    8. The [Install from Disk] screen is displayed.

  8. Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].

    9. For Windows Server® 2008:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\Win2000_XP

    For Windows Server® 2008 x64:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64

    The screen for printer selection is displayed.

  5. Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].

  6. Select [Select a shared printer by name], enter the following URL and click [Next].

There are 12 steps.

  1. Select [Start] - [Devices and Printers].

    2. The [Devices and Printers] is displayed.

  2. Click [Add Printer].

    3. The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.

  3. Select [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer].

  4. Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].

  5. Select [Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname], and click [Next].

  6. Enter the IP address of the selected model in [Hostname or IP address], and click [Next].

    7. The screen for selecting the manufacturer and model of the printer is displayed.

  7. Click [Have Disk].

    8. The [Install from Disk] screen is displayed.

  8. Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].

    9. For Windows® 7:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\Win2000_XP

    For Windows® 7 x64:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64

    The screen for printer selection is displayed.

  9. Select the print driver for your model and click [OK].

    10. The Default Printer Setup window is displayed.

    If you do not know the print driver for your model, click "Print Drivers" for reference.

  10. Enter the printer name, and click [Next].

    11. The print driver installation starts. A screen appears asking you whether to share the driver.

    Note
    The dialog box with the message "Windows can't Verify the publisher of this driver soft ware" will be displayed. Click [Install this driver software anyway] to continue with the installation.

  11. Select whether to share the driver, and click [Next].

    12. A screen appears indicating that the printer is properly installed.

  12. Select the check box to set the printer as the default printer then click [Finish]. If not, leave the check box blank then click [Finish].

    13. Installation is complete.

Windows® 8, Windows Server® 2012

There are 10 steps.

  1. Select [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Device and Printers].

    2. The [Device and Printers] window is displayed.

  2. Click [Add a Printer].

    3. The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.

  3. Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].

  4. Select [Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname], and click [Next].

  5. Enter the IP address of the selected model in [Hostname or IP address], and click [Next].

    6. The screen for selecting the manufacturer and model of the printer is displayed.

  6. Click [Have Disk].

    7. The [Install From Disk] screen is displayed.

  7. Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].

    8. For Windows® 8:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\Win2000_XP

    For Windows® 8 x64, Windows Server® 2012 x64:
    (CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64

    The screen for printer selection is displayed.

  8. Select the print driver for your model and click [Next].

    9. The Default Printer Setup window is displayed.

  9. Enter the printer name, and click [Next].

    10. The print driver installation starts. A screen appears indicating that the printer is properly installed.

  10. Click [Finish].

    11. Installation is complete.

Confirming the printer that has been added

Perform the following procedure to find out if the printer icon has been created.

    The printers folder is displayed. Check if the icon for the specified printer is in the folder.
