Installing a Printer Connected via the Internet
This section explains how to specify the settings for printing from Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 to a printer connected to the internet by IPP (Internet Printing Protocol).
- Important
- You cannot use Driver Installation Tool in this CD-ROM to specify the settings for internet printing. To do this, you need to run the Windows [Add Printer] wizard.
- Note
- If your computer's OS is Windows Server® 2008 R2, set the procedure for Windows® 7.
Before the installation
Check the following before you begin installation:
Check that the required network environment for adding the printer to the selected computer has been setup.
The network environment should be as follows:
- OS: Windows® XP or Windows Server® 2003
- Connection mode: Standard TCP/IP Port
- Service client: -
- Protocol: Internet protocol (TCP/IP)
- OS: Windows Server® 2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8
- Connection mode: Standard TCP/IP Port
- Service client: -
- Protocol: Internet protocol (TCP/IP) (IPv4, IPv6)
- Note
- Check the following before you use the TCP/IP protocol:
- Check that [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] has been installed in the selected computer. If it has not been installed, refer to the customer documentation for Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8 and install it.
- The "Unable to connect printer" error message may be displayed when you try to specify the print destination for internet printing via a proxy server. In this case, in Windows, select [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] (For Windows® XP or Windows Server® 2003, select [Start] - [Control Panel]. For Windows Server® 2008, Windows Vista® or Windows® 7, select [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Network and Internet]. For Windows® 8 or Windows Server ® 2012, select [Control Panel] - [Network and Internet].). Under [Internet Options], select not to use a proxy server for the IP address of the selected model. For information on how to specify the settings, refer to the customer documentation for Windows® XP, Windows Server® 2003/2008/2012, Windows Vista®, Windws® 7 or Windws® 8.
- Support for IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) differs according to the machine model. To find out if your machine model supports IPv6, please refer to the accompanying manual.
Check with your administrator to confirm the following:
- a. Target printer is connected via TCP/IP and the IPP port has been activated
- b. IP address is specified in the printer
- c. Model name of the target printer

On SSL encryption communincation
Depending on the model in use, SSL can be used to encrypt the communication between a computer and a printer.
To perform SSL encryption communication, the following settings must be specified on the printer before installing the print driver on the computer.
- Start the IPP port and connect to the computer.
- Create a self-identification.
- Enable HTTPS.
The settings will be specified using the CentreWare Internet Services. For the details of the procedure, refer to the user guide that comes with the model.

Printing using SSL cannot be performed via print server. It can be used when the setting enviroment allows direct communication using TCP/IP connected from the computer to the machine.
- It cannot be used together with the following software.
- TrustMarkingBasic / TrustMarking (Software sold separately)

Installing a printer connected to the internet
This section explains how to install the print driver. The installation procedures are different for the respective operating systems. Refer to the appropriate procedures for your Operating System.
Windows® XP
There are 10 steps.
- In Windows, select [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].
The [Printers and Faxes] window is displayed.
- Click [Install Printer] in [Printer Task].
The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.
- Click [Next].
The [Local Printer or Network Printer] window is displayed.
- Select [A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer] and click [Next].
The [Printer Specification] window is displayed.
- Select [Connect to Internet, Home or Company Network Printer] and enter the following URL in the [URL] edit box. Then click [Next].

The screen for selecting the manufacturer and the model of the printer is displayed.
- Click [Have Disk].
The [Install from Floppy Disk] screen is displayed.
- Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].
For Windows® XP:
(CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\ Win2000_XP
For Windows® XP x64:
(CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64
The screen for printer selection is displayed.

- Select the print driver for your model and click [OK].
The copying of the required files begins. The Default Printer Setup window is displayed.
- Note
- The dialog box with the message "Digital signature not found" will be displayed. Click [Yes] to continue with the installation.
- If you do not know the print driver for your model, click "Print Drivers" for reference.
- Select [Yes] to set the printer as the default printer. If not, select [No]. Then click [Next].
The [Add Printer Wizard Completion] window is displayed.
- Click [Finish].
Installation is complete.
Windows Server® 2003
There are 10 steps.
- In [Windows], select [Start] - [Printers and Faxes].
The [Printers and Faxes] window is displayed.
- Double-click [Add Printer].
The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.
- Click [Next].
The [Local Printer or Internet Printer] window is displayed.
- Select [A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer] and click [Next].
The [Printer Specification] window is displayed.

- Click [Add Printer].
The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.
- Select [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer].
- Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].
- Select [Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname], and click [Next].
- Enter the IP address of the selected model in [Hostname or IP address], and click [Next].
The screen for selecting the manufacturer and model of the printer is displayed.
- Click [Have Disk].
The [Install from Disk] screen is displayed.
- Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].
For Windows® 7:
(CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\Win2000_XP
For Windows® 7 x64:
(CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64

- Select the print driver for your model and click [OK].
The Default Printer Setup window is displayed.

- If you do not know the print driver for your model, click "Print Drivers" for reference.
- Enter the printer name, and click [Next].
The print driver installation starts. A screen appears asking you whether to share the driver.
- Note
- The dialog box with the message "Windows can't Verify the publisher of this driver soft ware" will be displayed. Click [Install this driver software anyway] to continue with the installation.
- Select whether to share the driver, and click [Next].
A screen appears indicating that the printer is properly installed.
- Select the check box to set the printer as the default printer then click [Finish]. If not, leave the check box blank then click [Finish].
Installation is complete.
Windows® 8, Windows Server® 2012
There are 10 steps.
- Select [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Device and Printers].
The [Device and Printers] window is displayed.
- Click [Add a Printer].
The [Add Printer] wizard is displayed.
- Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].
- Select [Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname], and click [Next].
- Enter the IP address of the selected model in [Hostname or IP address], and click [Next].
The screen for selecting the manufacturer and model of the printer is displayed.
- Click [Have Disk].
The [Install From Disk] screen is displayed.
- Enter the following on the displayed screen and click [OK].
For Windows® 8:
(CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\Win2000_XP
For Windows® 8 x64, Windows Server® 2012 x64:
(CD-ROM drive name):\Eng\PCL\x64
The screen for printer selection is displayed.

- Select the print driver for your model and click [Next].

The print driver installation starts. A screen appears indicating that the printer is properly installed.
- Click [Finish].
Installation is complete.

Confirming the printer that has been added
Perform the following procedure to find out if the printer icon has been created.
The printers folder is displayed. Check if the icon for the specified printer is in the folder.
