Limitations ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Notes on Driver Installation Tool ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.1.1 Notes on setting up print instruction When shared printer (note 2) having the administrator right is set up on the client computer (note 1), print command can usually be specified in the driver installation tool but the following conditions may occur. - If you click [Printing Preferences], an error message will appear instead of the properties sheet. - If you click [Printing Preferences] and the properties sheet appears, the setting items will appear as gray-out. - Even if you can display the properties sheet by clicking [Printing Preferences] and specify the settings in the properties sheet, an error message will be displayed and these settings will not be reflected. This happens easily if you continue displaying or hiding the properties sheet. If you wait for a while before implementing it again, it will operate normally. If a printer driver has been installed on a Windows 2000 client computer, make sure that the version of the printer driver on the client computer and the shared printer is the same when you are using shared printer on Windows 2000. The device option settings or the print job settings may not function properly. (Note 1) Client computers installed on Windows 2000 / Windows Server 2003. (Note 2) Shared printers on Windows 2000 / Windows Server 2003. 3.1.2 Notes on the "Browse" button on the shared printer setup display The actual existing shared printers may not be displayed on the shared printer setup screen when you click the "Browse" button. When this happens, enter the shared printer name directly in the text box. For information on the input format, refer to the "Setup Manual" or the Help file for the driver installation tool. 3.1.3 Notes on setting up Netware shared printer in the driver installation tool If you have selected Netware shared printer in "Custom Setup" but Novell Client 32 is not installed on the computer you are using, the program cannot automatically recognize the address of the Netware shared printer. In this case, enter the IPX address of the target printer in the text box on the "Printer Setup" screen. 3.1.4 Notes on searching Microsoft Network-connected (SMB) printers Sometimes, driver installation tool may not be able to find Microsoft Network-connected printer. In this case, wait for a while before running another search, or change the work group name or domain name of the target printer to the same name as the computer that you are using. Select "Properties" > "Port Settings" > "SMB" > "Workgroup Name" on CentreWare Internet Services of the target printer and make the changes accordingly. 3.1.5 Driver signature option Driver installation tool installs the printer driver despite the setting for driver signature option. Our company verifies the operation of the printer driver installed by the driver installation tool on the operating system described in "2. Operating Environment". 3.1.6 When no printer or multi-function system is found If no printer or multi-function system is found on the LPR printer setup screen in "Standard Setup" and "Custom Setup" on the driver installation tool, add the broadcast address by selecting the "Search Scope" button on the "Select LPR (TCP/IP) printer" > "LPR (TCP/IP) Selection" screen for "Custom Setup". 3.1.7 When restarting of computer is required In Windows 2000 / XP / Windows Server 2003 / Windows Vista, you may have to restart the computer after the driver installation tool ends. Restarting of the computer is required in the following cases: 1. If a printer driver of an older version has already existed while a new printer is being added 2. When [Upgrade printer driver] is executed 3.1.8 Notes on using Personal Firewall Personal Firewall function exists in Windows XP or some anti-virus software. If this function is enabled, network communication crucial in this tool may be blocked. Once the "Internet Connection Firewall" in Windows XP is enabled, the printer/multi-function device searching function in this tool cannot be used. 3.1.9 Points to note when adding shared printers on Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8 After selecting [Specify shared printer] from [Custom setup] when adding a shared printer on Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8, enter the share name into the [Share name] field in the [Share this printer] dialog using the following format. \\\ The [OK] button will not be available even if a shared printer is selected in the [Browse printers] dialog after clicking on the [Browse] button. 3.1.10 Points to note on Properties display for Windows Vista 64-Bit Edition On Windows Vista 64-Bit Edition, even if [Properties] on the [Setup Completed] screen is clicked, the added/modified printer properties may not be displayed. In this case, go to [Control Panel] -> [Hardware and Sound] -> [Printers] on the computer to display the added/modified printer properties. 3.2 Notes and restrictions when Windows Firewall is available ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows Firewall becomes available when using "Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Security Enhancement Function" (hereinafter Windows XP SP2) on Windows XP. Windows Firewall is available on Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8 as a standard. When Windows Firewall is available, printer search may fail in "Driver Installation Tool" .
