Features =========================================== The PS Gamma Adjuster feature can adjust an amount of each of the primary colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) that make up a color output to a PostScript printer. This feature enables you to obtain the color you expect, by controlling the component amounts of primary color toners by the software when you could not obtain the color you expected. This feature can be used to adjust the dot gain of the component amount of each primary color, and control the amount of toner that is transferred as well. You can designate the definition of the gamma curves that you create, at the time of printing once you register it in the PPD file or SPD file of a PostScript printer. =============================================== 2. (2) Select [Print] in [File] menu. (3) Click [Properties], and open [Color] tab. (4) Select the gamma curve name in [Custom Gamma Adjustment] menu and print. ----------------------------------------------- 3.1 Tips on gamma curves ----------------------------------------------- To adjust the entire image by using a specific color as reference, you calculate the amount of dot gain from the difference between the component amount of each primary color of the specific color and the actually-printed component amount of each primary color of the specific color, and reflect it in the graph. For example, from the print result of red that has the composition of C=10%, M=90%, Y=80% and K=5%, you guess that magenta portion lacks 5% while yellow portion has a 3% excess. In this case, the amounts of dot gain are M=90%: 5 and Y=80%: -3. Here, uncheck [All(CMYK)], click [Magenta], and enter the value 95, which is the sum of the lacking 5% and 90% of the text box. Similarly, click [Yellow], and enter the value 77%, which you get after subtracting the excess amount 3% from the 80% of the text box. When RGB is used, please follow the instructions below: For darker red over the entire image, increase the value of cyan. For darker blue over the entire image, increase the value of yellow. For darker green over the entire image, increase the value of magenta. For lighter red over the entire image, decrease the value of cyan. For lighter blue over the entire image, decrease the value of yellow. For lighter green over the entire image, decrease the value of magenta. =============================================== 4. Cautionary Notes =============================================== - Using the PS Gamma Adjuster feature may result in slow printing. If you wish to place the priority on the speed, select [Not Specified] in the [Custom Gamma Adjustment] menu in [Color] tab. - After you register the gamma curve name, [Custom Gamma Adjustment] menu or its contents may not be displayed in the printer driver's [Color] tab. If this occurs, restart the computer. - Before you print, you need to restart the applications that were already started before you registered the gamma curves. - Some applications have the feature that designates the adjustment of the dot gain and the adjustment of the component amount of each primary color, at the time of printing, or the feature that includes those settings in EPS file. If you wish to use these features of the application, select [Not Specified] in the [Custom Gamma Adjustment] menu in [Color] tab. - Even when multiple printers of the same model exist on the network, only one printer name is displayed in the list of [Select printer] of the PS Gamma Adjuster. The gamma curve name that has been registered, however, becomes effective on all the printers of the same model. ------------------------------ 4.1 On PageMaker 6.5 ------------------------------ In [PPD] of [Print] dialog, select the printer name for which the gamma curve name has been registered, click [Features] button, select the gamma curve name in [Custom Gamma Adjustment], and print. ================================= 5.
