Introduction =============== 1.1 What is Oki LPR? -------------------- Oki LPR is a utility used to connect computers to printers over a TCP/IP network. This utility can also be used to: - Monitor the status of print jobs - Send print files to a printer - View the printer status - Automatically redirect jobs to other printers on the network 1.2 System Requirements ----------------------- Oki LPR requires a computer running one of the following operating systems: -Windows 2000 -Windows XP -Windows XP x64 Edition -Windows Server 2003 -Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition -Windows Vista -Windows Vista x64 Edition -Windows Server 2008 -Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition -Windows 7 -Windows 7 x64 Edition -Windows Server 2008 R2 Printers OKI printers that support TCP/IP. Printers from other manufacturers are not supported. ==================================== 2. Setting up the printer IP address ==================================== Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on setting up an IP address for your printer. NOTE: If you do not set up the IP address properly, it may cause problems with other devices on your network. Contact your network administrator before deciding IP address allocation. An example of allocating IP addresses ------------------------------------- For a small-sized network connecting a computer and a printer, set up as follows (in compliance with RFC1918*): Computer IP Address: One of 192.168.0.1~254 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 0.0.0.0 (Not used) DNS: Not used Printer IP Address: One of 192.168.0.1~254 (Different from the one for your computer) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 0.0.0.0 (Not used) *What is RFC1918? RFC1918 is a document that suggests a standard for allocating IP addresses on a private internet. This information is provided by the 'Network Working Group'. TCP/IP settings for Windows ============================== NOTE: If you do not set up the IP address properly, it may cause problems with other devices on your network. Configuring TCP/IP settings on Windows requires Administrator rights. 3.1 TCP/IP settings for Windows 2000 ------------------------------------ (1) Select [Start] - [Settings] - [Network and Dial-up Connections]. (2) Double-click [Local Area Connection] and click [Properties]. (3) Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] and click [Properties]. (4) Enter [IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server], then click [OK]. (5) Close [Local Area Connection]. 3.2 TCP/IP settings for Windows XP, XP x64 Edition -------------------------------------------------- (1) Select [Start] - [Control Panel]. (2) Click [Network and Internet Connections] and click [Network Connections]. (3) Double-click [Local Area Connection] and click [Properties]. (4) Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] and click [Properties]. (5) Enter [IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server], then click [OK]. (6) Close [Local Area Connection]. 3.3 TCP/IP settings for Windows Server 2003, Server 2003 x64 Edition -------------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Select [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Network Connections] - [Local Area Connection]. (2) Click [Properties]. (3) Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] and click [Properties]. (4) Enter [IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server], then click [OK]. (2) Click [Network and Sharing Center] and click [Manage network connections]. (3) Double-click [Local Area Connection] and click [Properties]. (4) Select [Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)] and click [Properties]. (5) Enter [IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Preferred DNS Server], then click [OK]. (6) Close [Local Area Connection]. 3.5 TCP/IP settings for Windows 7/7 x64 Edition/Server 2008 R2 -------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Select [Start] - [Control Panel] in Classic view. (2) Click [Network and Internet] and click [Network and Sharing Center]. (3) Click [Change adapter settings]. (4) Double-click [Local Area Connection] and click [Properties]. (5) Select [Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)] and click [Properties]. (6) Enter [IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Preferred DNS Server], then click [OK]. (7) Close [Local Area Connection]. ============================= 4. Setting up OKI LPR Utility ============================= NOTE: Setting up Oki LPR requires Administrator rights. (1) Install the printer driver. When asked to choose a port, select [Local Printer (LPT1:)]. Instructions for installing the printer driver can be found in your printer user manual. (2) Double-click [SETUP.EXE]. (3) Click [Next] when the [Welcome] screen is displayed. (4) Verify [Destination Folder] and [Spool Folder] and click [Next]. (5) Choose [Launch at Startup] if you want Oki LPR to start automatically as Windows starts up. Choose [Launch as minimized] if you want Oki LPR to startup as an icon in your System Tray; click [Next]. (6) Verify the program folder name and click [Next]. Installation starts. (7) When installation ends, the [Setup complete] screen is displayed; Choose [Yes, I want to launch OKI LPR Utility now] and click [Finish]. Choose [Yes, I want to view the ReadMe File] if you want to read [Readme]. The OKI LPR utility starts. (8) Select [Add Printer] on the [Remote Print] menu. (9) Select at [Printer] the printer that has been added in (1). (10) Enter an IP address at [IP Address] and click [OK]. A printer is added to the main window. Setup is now complete. While the OKI LPR utility is running, print from any Windows application. For details on how to use the OKI LPR utility, please refer to the help file. =================================== 5. Uninstalling the OKI LPR Utility =================================== (1) Exit the OKI LPR Utility. (2) Select [Start] - [All Programs] - [Okidata] - [OKI LPR Utility] - [Uninstall OKI LPR Utility] ([Start] - [Programs] - [Okidata] - [OKI LPR Utility] - [Uninstall OKI LPR Utility] on Windows 2000). (3) Click [Yes] when the [Confirm File Deletion] dialog is displayed. Deletion of the OKI LPR utility starts. (4) When deletion has finished, the [Uninstall Complete] screen is displayed. Click [OK]. NOTE: Any extraneous files in the installation folder or spool directory that were not included as part of the original install will not be removed. You should delete these files manually after the OKI LPR uninstaller has finished. ================== 6. Important notes ================== (1) The Spool directory must be set on a hard disk which has ample free space. Data spooling will fail if the free space on the hard disk is low and the size of the data printing is too large or there are too many print jobs. (2) The contents of [Printer Status] on the [Remote Print] menu vary among the printers. ========================== 7.
