README.TXT =========================================================================== Windows Print Control Client Version 1.1.3 Copyright(C) 2010 Oki Data Corporation =========================================================================== ===================================== 1. Introduction ===================================== Print Control is a job accounting and reporting feature of Oki printers. It can be used to track printer usage and costs, and restrict usage to certain individuals or groups. Print Control needs 3 things: 1. A supported Oki printer model that is capable of recording print job information. 2. Print Control Server software to manage supported printers. 3. Print Control Client Print Control Client is a plug-in module for the printer driver that enables individual printer usage to be recorded. The client software sends user information (such as name, ID) along with each print job. This readme file describes Print Control Client software. ===================================== 2. System Requirements ===================================== Print Control Client requires a computer running one of the following operating systems: - Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition - Windows 7 - Windows 7 x64 Edition - Windows Server 2008 - Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition - Windows Vista - Windows Vista x64 Edition - Windows Server 2003 - Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition - Windows XP - Windows XP Professional x64 Edition - Windows 2000 Compatible printer drivers OKI MC860(PS) OKI MC860(PCL6) OKI MC860(PCL XPS) OKI MC860(PCL) OKI MC860(FAX) OKI MC561(PS) OKI MC561(PCL6) OKI MC561(PCL XPS) OKI MC561(PCL) OKI MC561(FAX) OKI MC560(PS) OKI MC560(PCL6) OKI MC560(PCL) OKI MC361(PS) OKI MC361(PCL6) OKI MC361(PCL XPS) OKI MC361(PCL) OKI MC361(FAX) OKI MC360(FAX) OKI MC360 OKI MC351(PS) OKI MC351(PCL6) OKI MC351(PCL XPS) OKI MC351(PCL) OKI MC350 OKI MB480(PS) OKI MB480(PCL) OKI MB480(FAX) OKI MB470(PS) OKI MB470(PCL) OKI MB470(FAX) OKI MB460 OKI C9850(PS) OKI C9850(PCL6) OKI C9850(PCL) OKI C9850 MFP(PS) OKI C9850 MFP(PCL6) OKI C9850 MFP(PCL) OKI C9800(PS) OKI C9800(PCL6) OKI C9800(PCL) OKI C9800 GA(PS) OKI C9800 GA(PCL6) OKI C9800 GA(PCL) OKI C9650(PS) OKI C9650(PCL6) OKI C9650(PCL) OKI C9600(PS) OKI C9600(PCL6) OKI C9600(PCL) OKI C9500(PS) OKI C9500(PCL) OKI C9300(PS) OKI C9300(PCL) OKI C910(PS) OKI C910(PCL) OKI C8800(PS) OKI C8800(PCL6) OKI C8800(PCL) OKI C8600 OKI C830(PS) OKI C830(PCL6) OKI C830(PCL XPS) OKI C830(PCL) OKI C821(PS) OKI C821(PCL6) OKI C821(PCL XPS) OKI C821(PCL) OKI C810(XPS) OKI C810 OKI C801(XPS) OKI C801 OKI C7550(PS) OKI C7550(PCL) OKI C7500(PS) OKI C7500(PCL) OKI C7350(PS) OKI C7350(PCL) OKI C7300(PS) OKI C7300(PCL) OKI C711(XPS) OKI C711(PS) OKI C711(PCL6) OKI C711(PCL) OKI C7100(PS) OKI C7100(PCL) OKI C710(PS) OKI C710(PCL6) OKI C710(PCL XPS) OKI C710(PCL) OKI C610(XPS) OKI C610(PS) OKI C610(PCL6) OKI C610(PCL) OKI C5950(PS) OKI C5950(PCL6) OKI C5950(PCL) OKI C5900(PS) OKI C5900(PCL6) OKI C5900(PCL) OKI C5850 OKI C5800 OKI C5750(PS) OKI C5750(PCL6) OKI C5750(PCL) OKI C5700(PS) OKI C5700(PCL6) OKI C5700(PCL) OKI C5650 OKI C5600 OKI C5550 MFP(PS) OKI C5550 MFP(PCL6) OKI C5550 MFP(PCL) OKI C5540(PS) OKI C5540(PCL) OKI C5510 OKI C5450n(PS) OKI C5450n(PCL) OKI C5400n(PS) OKI C5400n(PCL) OKI C5400(PS) OKI C5400(PCL) OKI C5300(PS) OKI C5300(PCL) OKI C530(PS) OKI C530(PCL6) OKI C530(PCL XPS) OKI C530(PCL) OKI C5200n OKI C5150n OKI C5100 OKI C510(XPS) OKI C510 OKI C3600(PS) OKI C3600(PCL6) OKI C3600(PCL XPS) OKI C3600(PCL) OKI C3530 MFP(FAX) OKI C3530 MFP OKI C3520 MFP OKI C3450 OKI C3400 OKI C3300 OKI C330(PS) OKI C330(PCL6) OKI C330(PCL XPS) OKI C330(PCL) OKI C3200n OKI C310(XPS) OKI C310 OKI B840(PS) OKI B840(PCL) OKI B820(PS) OKI B820(PCL) OKI B4600L(PS) OKI B4600L(PCL) OKI B4600(PS) OKI B4600(PCL) OKI B4400L OKI B4400 OKI B440(PS) OKI B440(PCL) OKI B4350(PS) OKI B4350(PCL) OKI B431(PS) OKI B431(PCL) OKI B4300(PS) OKI B4300(PCL) OKI B430(PS) OKI B430(PCL) OKI B4250(PCL) OKI B4200(PCL) OKI B411 OKI B410 ES8460 MFP(PS) ES8460 MFP(PCL6) ES8460 MFP(PCL XPS) ES8460 MFP(PCL) ES8460 MFP(FAX) ES5461 MFP(PS) ES5461 MFP(PCL6) ES5461 MFP(PCL XPS) ES5461 MFP(PCL) ES5461 MFP(FAX) ES5460 MFP(PS) ES5460 MFP(PCL6) ES5460 MFP(PCL) ES5430(PS) ES5430(PCL6) ES5430(PCL XPS) ES5430(PCL) ES4180 MFP(PS) ES4180 MFP(PCL) ES4180 MFP(FAX) ES4160 MFP ES4140(PS) ES4140(PCL) ES4131(PS) ES4131(PCL) ES3640a3(PS) ES3640a3(PCL6) ES3640a3(PCL) ES3640 Pro(PS) ES3640 Pro(PCL6) ES3640 Pro(PCL) ES3640 Pro MFP(PS) ES3640 Pro MFP(PCL6) ES3640 Pro MFP(PCL) ES3461 MFP(PS) ES3461 MFP(PCL6) ES3461 MFP(PCL XPS) ES3461 MFP(PCL) ES3461 MFP(FAX) ES3451 MFP(PS) ES3451 MFP(PCL6) ES3451 MFP(PCL XPS) ES3451 MFP(PCL) ES3032(PS) ES3032(PCL6) ES3032(PCL) ES2632a4(PS) ES2632a4(PCL6) ES2632a4(PCL) ES2632a3(PS) ES2632a3(PCL6) ES2632a3(PCL) ES2232(PS) ES2232(PCL6) ES2232(PCL) *OKI C9400(PS) *OKI C9400(PCL) *OKI C9200(PS) *OKI C9200(PCL) *OKI C7400(PS) *OKI C7400(PCL) *OKI C7200(PS) *OKI C7200(PCL) * For these models, a printer driver that specifically supports the Print Control Client must be installed. ====================================== 3. Using Print Control Client ====================================== 3.1 To enable accounting information (User name and ID) to be sent along with print jobs ------------------------------------ (1) Install the printer driver. (2) Install Print Control client. (3) After the installation program has finished, the main Print Control window will appear. (4) Select the printer driver you installed in step (1). (5) Select the Print Control mode and click Change. If you want all printer drivers to use the same mode, select "Set all drivers to the same mode". What are Print Control "Modes"? The main window allows you to configure how the Print Control client appears in the printer driver. There are 4 possible "modes" of Print Control client operation: - Tab mode - Pop-up mode - Hide mode - Not supported These are described in the section below. 3.1.1 Tab mode ------------------------------------ In Tab mode, the User Name & Job Account ID options appear as another tab in the printer driver's properties. This is best suited for computers with a single user as these options can be changed by anyone. How to enter the User Name & Job Account ID: (1) Open the Windows Printers folder. (2) Right-click on the Printer icon and choose Properties. (3) Click the Print Control tab (4) Enter your User Name and Job Account ID. (5) Click OK. (6) Print as normal from your application program. The User Name & ID information you entered is sent to the printer along with the print job. 3.1.2 Pop-up mode ------------------------------------ In pop-up mode, the User Name & Job Account ID options appear as a pop-up dialog for every job that's printed. Use this option when the computer is shared between many users who don't each have their own login. How to enter the User Name & Job Account ID: (1) When you print from your application, the User Name & Job Account ID dialog will automatically appear. (2) Enter your User Name and Job Account ID. (3) Click OK. The User Name & ID information you entered is sent to the printer along with the print job. Note: If you are using the Windows XP user switching mode and a shared printer. do not use pop-up mode. Use Hide mode instead. Pop-up mode cannot be selected on Windows Vista/Server 2008/7/Server 2008 R2. 3.1.3 Hide mode ------------------------------------ Use this option if Windows XP User Switching Mode is being used. In Hide mode, the User Name & Job Account ID options do not appear to the end user. Instead, these options are read from a file. The appropriate User Name & ID is selected based on the user currently logged in to Windows. How to enter the User Name & Job Account ID: (1) Create an ID file that describes the User Names and Job Account IDs for each user. The file should be a CSV (Comma-separated) text file. Each line should read as follows: Windows Login user name,Job Account ID,User Name Example: JSmith,1234,John Smith Note that the User Name is optional. (2) Start the Oki Print Control Client Click Start > Programs > Okidata > Print Control Client > Change Print Control Mode (3) From the Hide Mode menu, select "Import ID File..." (4) Select the ID file you created in Step 1. The appropriate User Name and Job Account ID will be selected based on the currently logged in Windows user. If you want all users on the PC use the same User Name and Job Account ID: From the "Hide Mode" menu, select "Set fixed Job Account ID for all users..." If you leave the User Name field blank, the Windows log-in name will be used as default. 3.2 To stop sending User Name & ID information from the printer driver ------------------------------------ (1) Start the Oki Print Control Client Click Start > Programs > Okidata > Print Control Client > Change Print Control Mode (2) Select the printer driver you wish to change from the list. (3) Select "Not Supported" and click "Change" If the mode change is successful, a message will appear telling you that the mode was changed. For more information, please refer to your User Guide. ====================================== 4. Notes ====================================== (1) If you are using the Windows XP user switching mode and a shared printer. do not use pop-up mode. Use Hide mode instead. If pop-up mode is used, the User Name & Job Account ID window will appear on the screen of the user who logged on first. (2) If you are using a PostScript driver, when printing from some applications the user name, Job Account ID or document name may not be recorded. In such cases, the print job is recorded as having been printed by an unregistered user (Job Account ID = 0, User name = Blank). (3) If you are using a PostScript driver and printing duplex, blank pages on the reverse side of the paper are not counted as pages. (4) "Set the same mode for all drivers" will be unavailable if you are using the Windows XP user switching mode and a shared printer. If you wish to use one of the printers as a shared one, you need to set the mode for each driver separately. (5) Pop-up mode cannot be selected on Windows Vista/Server 2008/7/Server 2008 R2. (6) Input screen is not displayed when you print from 32-bit application using PS printer driver set as pop-up mode on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition/Server 2003 x64 Edition. In this case, Job Accout ID is set to 0. ======================== 5.
